World class weight loss results with Gateway Health
The benefit of a 12 month follow up programme to the weight loss results
At Gateway health, we believe that it is a multispeciality/ multidisciplinary approach to follow up care that provides the best results. Not all follow up programmes are equal, as such they don’t produce the same results. Gateway Health results, which show over twice the excess weight loss of other programes are based on the multidisciplinary approach*. The Gateway Health 12 month programme that produces these fantastic results, has input from surgeons, anaesthetists, specialist surgical nurses, specialist psychiatric nurses, dieticians, behavioural psychologists, and sports coaches.
"While surgeons have always understood the importance of follow-up care, this survey helps quantify how much of a difference it really makes," said Scott Shikora, MD, ASMBS President and Chief of General Surgery, Bariatric Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. "Compliance can mean the difference between a good result and a great result."
Surgeons typically recommend post-surgical activities including regular exercise, nutritional counselling, maintaining a food diary, psychological counselling, diet modification, keeping doctor's appointments and participation in support groups. However, 66 percent of surgeons believe there is no consensus on what constitutes bariatric surgery follow-up care. About half (48%) say they did not receive bariatric surgery follow-up care education as part of their training or fellowship.
*In a recent study - Gateway Health showed a 73.5% Excess weight loss, as compared to an average of 30- 33 % in other comparable studies.
