Weightloss surgery success stories

Thank you to all our patients that agreed to share their success on the the Gateway Health programme.

Nicola Oliver from Lincolnshire

I had a Gastric Sleeve in January 2018.

I had 5 stones to lose, my back was painful, I found moving around uncomfortable and I felt embarrassed about my size.

I did thorough research and chose Gateway Health as they were personally recommended to me. I liked the fact that I could see the same person for follow up at my local private hospital. Everyone has been knowledgeable and approachable.

I was really quite anxious about what it would be like post op and I was surprised by how little pain I felt. I just felt the little incisions pulled for the first few weeks. About a week after my surgery I was unsure whether one of my incisions was healing correctly, Louise, my specialist nurse asked me for details and a photo to be sent to her, within 30 minutes the surgeon had seen the picture and I was given an answer and advice, all on a Saturday night!

I was well prepared for the dietary stages following surgery and I prepared small nutritious frozen meals in advance, which really helped.

I also asked Louise to find me a post op buddy (someone going through the same stages as me) in my area. We have chatted a few times and I find it very reassuring and useful.

As my weight started decreasing I felt so much better and my energy vastly increased. I can honestly say that I feel like a different person.

I have made a commitment to this surgery and to keep my body far more healthy. You do have to make changes about the way you feel about food to not fall into the traps that you fell into before surgery. The surgery is not a total solution but a tool to enable you to live a much better life. I am going to grasp that opportunity and try to continue this for the rest of my life.

I have never regretted it for a moment.

The above ‘before’ picture was taken 14 months ago, I was horrified at how I looked!

I had tried countless diets and finally decided to take the plunge and contact Gateway Health for help.I can honestly say, it was the best thing I ever did!

The team are amazing, the support was and still is fantastic. I haven’t had any repercussions at all.

I am now much happier and able to walk without getting breathless. I have so many people tell me that the change in my personality is phenomenal.

I would highly recommend this treatment (Gastric Sleeve) to anyone thinking about it,it would be by far the best thing you ever do!!! I just wish I had done it years ago.

Thank you Gateway

Zoe Redfern from Grimsby, NE Lincs

Zoe before after weight loss surgery
I decided to have a Gastric Sleeve due to ill health. I had been on different diets forever and would lose weight then put it back on, plus a bit more.

I had really high blood pressure and was on blood pressure tablets but my blood pressure was still too high.

I felt ill and exhausted every day and struggled with anxiety and depression.

Now I have so much more energy, more confidence, no blood pressure tablets and I feel amazing! I’m so grateful to everyone at Gateway Health and to Louise for her ongoing support.

Vanessa Hunt from Grimsby, NE Lincs

At my heaviest I was 15st and in a size 22 clothes at only 4’11” and this gave me a bad back and pain in my knees and feet. In September 2017 I had a Gastric Bypass.

The before and after pictures above are only 9 months apart.

I now weigh 8st 10 lbs and am in a size 8-10 clothes. I no longer suffer with pain in my back, knees or feet and, just over a year after surgery, I feel absolutely fantastic. I get so many lovely compliments from people and this has done wonders for my confidence and self-esteem.

My aftercare from Roger Ackroyd (Consultant Surgeon), Louise Hague (Consultant Nurse) and Nerissa Walker (Specialist Dietitian) has been exemplary and without these people I would not have got through the past year. They have all been brilliant and have gone above and beyond for me and have always been available to contact at any time.

Del Singh from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

Del had a Gastric Sleeve in 2014 when he weighed 24st 5 lbs with a BMI of 53.3, making him Morbidly Obese.

1 year later his  weight was down to 14st 3lbs with a BMI of 31.3

4 years later on Del is loving life more than the previous 20 years before his surgery, has climbed Kilimanjaro for charity and has recently (Sept 2018) completed his first Marathon in Loch Ness.

Liz Ames from Louth, Lincolnshire

My experience of Gateway Health and its service has been first class. They are thorough, professional and caring.

Appointments are quickly arranged, efficient and suited to the patient in every respect. My aftercare has been superb and made all the difference in changing me completely.

Having been obese, morbidly obese, for the vast majority of my life, I can say that the Gastric Bypass has changed my life. Before, a walk up a flight of stairs was hard work, now I regularly swim a mile or more, run 5k and am training for my first Triathlon – at the age of 58.

I have recently been zip lining, white water rafting and horse riding across the Pyrenees.

I only wish I had done it years ago. Gateway Health is wonderful.

Sarah Boyden from Lincoln

I got to a point and size in my life where I didn’t feel like me anymore, I felt heavy, lethargic and I hated my size. I had tried every diet and my health was suffering so I decided to look in to gastric surgery.

I contacted gateway health who were friendly and I met Louise my Bariatric nurse who explained all my options and pointed me in the right direction. After meeting with my consultant mr Akroyd  I was happy with the decision to have gastric  sleeve.

A year on from my surgery and I am so happy and healthy. I started my journey with a goal to start running again, I have absolutely smashed that goal and I am making new ones  for the future. It has been hard work and the sleeve is only one of the tools I used to achieve my goal but it has so been worth the effort.

A bit thank you to Louise who has been there to answer questions and reassurance when I need it.
