Andrew KempAndrew kemo

Andrew Kemp qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1984. He has spent most of his career in Acute and emergency surgical work. In 2006 he attended the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons where he completed the Advanced Bariatric OR nurses course – the only nurse working in Europe to have done so. He also attended the Inamed master class and workshops in gastric banding.

He now works as an independent advisor in Bariatric surgical procedures. He has recently started to offer his services training nurses/ dieticians in the clinical safe adjustment of gastric bands. Andrew also appears on the Anne Diamond web site “fat happens” as an expert in weight loss surgery.

He is a member of the teaching faculty of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, where he supports courses for Consultant surgeons three times a year. He is also a member of the RCS group which looks at the way in which surgeons are trained now and in the future.

Louise King

Louise KingLouise qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1990-specialising in Mental Health.
She is registered with the NMC and is a member of the Royal College of Nursing. Since 1990 she has worked in several areas of psychiatry and general medicine. Louise holds the Master Practitioner qualification in Eating Disorders and Obesity. She has been working with Gateway Health as a consultant Nurse since 2007.

She was part of the professional team who developed the Gateway Health Lifestyle Programme which has produced fantastic results amongst Gateway Health patients. This study was independently published in the Medical Journal ‘AUGIS’ (Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons of GB and Ireland) in 2008.

Nerissa Walker- Specialist Bariatric Dietitian

Nerissa  is a registered Dietitian with extensive experience of nutrition and dietetics in obesity and bariatric surgery.

Nerissa has practised as a specialist dietitian in bariatric surgery for approximately nine years alongside Mr Roger Ackroyd in Sheffield, which is
one of the most experienced and active bariatric surgery units in the UK.

Nerissa is an affiliate member of the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS) and a member of the BOMSS dietitians committee. She is
also a member of British Dietetic Association (BDA) and Dietitians in Obesity Management (DOM UK).

Nerissa has developed bariatric diet sheets together with bariatric patient literature with the BOMSS dietitians committee members which are used
widely across the UK. She also acts as an expert dietitian in bariatric legal cases.

Nerissa is also a member of the National Obesity Forum (NOF) and International Federation for Obesity Surgery (IFSO).

NerissaI lectures both locally and nationally upon dietetic and nutrition related aspects of bariatric surgery primarily to dietitians and other health  care professionals and actively trains and clinically supervises other
dietitians.

Dale Staton

Dale Staton graduated with a BSc Honours degree in coaching, sport and exercise science in 2002. Further professional developments led Dale to become a qualified Personal Trainer and Sport Massage Therapist. Dale provides personalized and progressive exercise programs to meet lifestyle/wellbeing goals which can be maintained for a lifetime.

Striving for excellence with a wide range of individuals Dale secured a GP Referral Qualification to enable him to achieve fitness goals with those unfortunate to suffer with chronic conditions or medication with many contra-indications to exercise and perhaps nervous to start training.

To fully understanding many of the stressors of life that can create barriers to positive exercising behavior and therefore long term fitness success Dale is also a qualified Stress Management Consultant. Ultimately through such multi-disciplinary Dale uses his knowledge and determined character to provide an outstanding aftercare support to Gateway Health UK patients to get the results you deserve.

Mr Roger Ackroyd

Roger Ackroyd

Roger Ackroyd qualified in medicine from Sheffield University in 1989. He trained in general and upper GI surgery in Sheffield and in Adelaide, South Australia. He took up a consultant appointment in Sheffield in 2001 and specialises in upper GI surgery.

His main clinical interests include oesophago-gastric cancer surgery, laparoscopic surgery and bariatric surgery. He also runs an active research programme. His main research interests include ablation therapy for Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal cancer, clinical trials comparing different types of anti-reflux surgery and evaluating the metabolic effects of obesity surgery.

He has an extremely busy bariatric surgery practice, operating on around 400 patients per year. He has performed in excess of 1400 obesity operations. He offers all types of obesity surgery, both open and laparoscopic, including revisional surgery.

The most common operations offered by him include laparoscopic gastric band, laparoscopic roux-en-Y gastric bypass and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

Mr Ian Beckingham

Ian Beckingham Consultant Surgeon

Ian Beckingham is a Consultant Surgeon at Queens Medical Centre and Honorary Senior Lecturer at University of Nottingham Medical School. He specialises in keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery and surgery of the Liver and Pancreas.

He trained at Nottingham University and qualified B Med Sci (Hons) BM BS in 1987.  He obtained FRCS in 1992, DM in Surgery in 1994, was awarded the Medawar Medal in 1995 and a Hunterian Professorship in 1996.  He completed his training in Newcastle, Leeds and Cape Town where he was awarded the JH Louw Memorial Medal for most outstanding trainee and the Solly Marks Medal for best research paper at SAGES.  In the UK he was awarded Travel Fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons and Association of Upper GI Surgeons.  He was appointed to his current position as Consultant in 1999.

He has been performing Obesity Surgery at Royal Derby NHS trust and in Nottingham for 10 years with experience of over 300 Laparoscopic Gastric bands with <2% complication rate (well below the 5-7% national average).

Dr Asif Naqvi FRCP is a senior consultant Gastroenterologist at Diana Princess of Wales NHS Hospital and St Hughs Hospital in Grimsby North East Lincolnshire UK.

He provides comprehensive Gastroenterology services both in NHS and private sector. He has special expertise in the endoscopic insertion of Intragastric Balloons and runs a successul weight reduction programme with Gateway Health. His research and audit interests cover many aspects of gastrointestinal medicine and he runs an active teaching programme.

Prof. Nadey Hakim

Nadey S Hakim is a General, Bariatric and Transplant Surgeon. He is the Surgical Director ofthe West London Transplant Unit based at the Hammersmith Hospital. He has a particular interest and expertise in kidney and pancreas transplantation. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeon. He obtained his MD from Paris Rene Descartes University; he received his surgical training at Guy’s Hospital in London , PhD in small bowel transplantation from University College London. He completed a Gastrointestinal Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic and a Multiorgan Transplant Fellowship at the University of Minnesota .

Professor Hakim successfully started the first Pancreas Transplant Program in the SE of England. From the administrative point of view he is the Editor in Chief of International Surgery, a prestigious peer reviewed journal and on the Editorial board of Transplant Proceedings, Graft, Experimental and Clinical Transplantation and of several other journals.

Professor Hakim is a Member of the Kidney-Pancreas Committee of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTP), Past President of Transplantation Section of the Royal Society of Medicine. He was part of the Working Party to Review Organ Transplantation in the UK . He has represented Britain in the International team which has performed the world’s first arm Transplant and the world’s first double arm Transplant. He has given numerous presentations in the UK and throughout the world.

Professor Nadey S Hakim has been awarded an Honorary Professorship of Sao Paolo, University of Lyon , University of Lima Peru and University of Beshkent Ankara and has been a visiting Professor at several prestigious centres including Harvard University .

He has recently been awarded the 2007 J. Wesley Alexander Prize for outstanding Research in the field of Transplantation.


Mr David Dujon

Mr David Dujon Mr David Dujon works with Gateway Health – helping our patients to surgically and non surgically improve excess skin issues.

David Dujon is a Consultant Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon based at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. He graduated with Honors in Medicine and Therapeutics from the University of the West Indies in 1986. Following general surgical training he was awarded a Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1991.

Specialist training in Plastic Surgery was undertaken in the units at Plymouth, Sheffield and Nottingham leading to completion of the Fellowship examination in 1996. This was followed by a short overseas Fellowship in Aesthetic Surgery and Breast Reconstruction. On returning to the UK he expanded his special interest in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery and facial rejuvenation procedures. He is the Plastic Surgery Representative on the Medical Advice Committee of Claremont Hospital.
